Earthquake in Nepal on April 25, 2015
On April 25, 2015 a magnitude 7.8 earthquake hit the Himalayan region. The epicentre was located between the Nepalese capital Kathmandu and the city of Pokhara. The event and several aftershocks caused wide ranging destruction. Authorities estimate that more than 2000 people were killed and many more injured across Nepal and the neighbouring countries China, India and Bangladesh.
The German Joint Information and Situation Centre (GMLZ) tasked the Center for Satellite Based Crisis Information (ZKI) with the creation of reference maps to help aid organization in their work on the ground.
