GITEWS: Results of tsunami risk and vulnerability assessment handed over to BNBP
Since the beginning of the GITEWS project in 2005, a joint Indonesian-German working group on risk modelling and vulnerability assessment, coordinated by LIPI (Indonesian Institute of Sciences) and DLR, was established and mutually works together in order to provide risk knowledge for tsunami early warning and disaster risk reduction on sub-national level and at community level within three pilot areas. Major goals of the joint working group were the provision of tsunami risk map products, the development of a scientific proposal for a guideline on tsunami risk assessment in Indonesia as well as the integration of the results into the Tsunami Early Warning Center at BMKG (National Agency for Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics).
In the future DLR will continue to scientifically support the Indonesian partner organizations. An important contribution will be the implementation of technical trainings for tsunami risk modelling and the joint development of a national guideline for tsunami risk assessment.
